Why you need proofreading 🧐

by | Mar 9, 2021

I’ve talked before about how I began my Author Services journey as a Continuity Editor. But there’s another job I did a lot at the beginning before opening the Virtual Assistant side of the business: ProofReading!

I really enjoyed the challenge of finding the tiniest mistakes in each book. But this is now a job that I subcontract out to Trish Preston. She’s part of my awesome team at Adriel Wiggins Author Services and Consulting.

But why should YOU hire a proofreader? Because the tiniest mistakes LOVE to slip through. And there will always be that grammar-phile on the other end of your printed book saying, “The period is missing from the end of this sentence…” Let’s give them as few mistakes as possible to find!

Even with a great copy editor and a dedicated and grammar-capable ARC readers, and your own million passes over a manuscript, a proofreader will often find just a few more mistakes. Plus, if you have the proofreader read your ready-for-print PDF or epub, then they’re going to let you know if there’s any tricky formatting issues. An excellent proofreader will save you so many headaches from “reported issues” and “suggested edits.”

So whether you hire me, Trish Preston, or some other excellent Proofreader to do your proofreading, you can have peace of mind that your final product is as clean as can be!

Owner, Adriel Wiggins Author Services and Consulting

Hello! I’m Adriel Wiggins, wife, mother of three, bibliophile, art geek, and all around student. I’ve been on a quest all of my life to learn as much as I possibly can about everything I possibly can. This has helped me tremendously in what eventually became my life’s purpose: to help other people become the best version of themselves. It is in that line that I became an assistant.
