Anonymous by LP Dover

by | May 7, 2018

Last week, I read L.P. Dover’s Anonymous for one of my book clubs. I’m going to say right up front that if I hadn’t been introduced to it as part of a book club, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. I don’t read a lot of dark romance or romantic suspense because it invariably messes with my mood. So when I do read them, it’s sparingly, and bookended by light, happy books. I think my major problem with Anonymous was that I read too many dark books in a row. A diet of almost entirely dark romance or romance that had a cheater in it for two weeks just about killed me. So my opinions on Anonymous are not entirely the fault of L.P. Dover. Like most books that are supposed to have a bit of mystery to them, I figured out who the bad guy was quite early on. This happens every time an author does NOT pull a deus ex machina badguy. In my book club, I was one of three people who knew it early on, so L.P. Dover’s ability to hint without showing her hand was just fine. I did gain a certain amount of dark satisfaction at the end that all characters ended up how they should have. So it wasn’t an unhappy ending or a cliffhanger, or anything like that. But the book made my skin crawl. The creepiness factor was spot on and was loved by many members of my book club who like to be creeped out. Since I don’t like to be creeped out, I didn’t enjoy it as much. So if you’re looking for that, you’ll love this just fine. It was a quick read, which is always good for a book club. But Anonymous really, really wasn’t my cup of tea. 4/5 Stars simply because it contributed to the bad mood I had for weeks.
Disclaimer:

I only post reviews for books I am not connected with. If I beta read or edited the book, or work as a virtual assistant for the author, I do not post a review. However, authors occasionally send me books to review.

Projected* schedule for Book Reviews for 2018:

1st Monday: Fantasy or Sci-Fi (what I read the most)
2nd Monday: Random book (could be anything, but expect a lot of mysteries)
3rd Monday: Romance (might have sex, but will not be any relationship that is not MF)
4th Monday: Non-Fiction (inspirational, biographies, instructional)

*Due to LIFE being a factor in my life, this schedule might not actually happen.
